When the Souls Connected

A straight ray of sunshine falls on his eyes,

a subtle, comforting burn lights his eyelids,

slow grin floats across the sweet face,

until a cold, dark shadow appears unexpectedly.

Opening his eyes, he sees a blackbird,

that glares through its orange-black eyes,

senses the loneliness, waiting to be filled,

the bird then sits on his head and relishes the point of view.

Having not talked to anyone in years,

the perplexed man whispers to the bird,

awkward silence slowly turns into a melodic echoing room,

where the bird and the man pour out their hearts.

She suddenly flutters away into the clear blue sky,

he laughs at his gullibility for thinking he made a friend,

goes back to his old life, heartbroken and in despair,

until the next bright morning, the shadow appears again.

She judges him with her vivid round eyes,

he proudly tells his tales as a gentleman,

even though it seems impossible,

a true friendship was never seen before.

As the bird flies away for the last time,

to tell her chicks this very incredible tale,

of a piece of gem that the vicious world lost,

about the sinless prisoner, who was pure as the driven snow.
